Nigerian businesswoman and real estate mogul Grace Ofure Ibhakhomu has sparked massive reactions online after boldly declaring that 18-year-olds should not be living with their parents.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the entrepreneur urged young people to embrace independence early.
She explained that personal growth begins when one steps out of their comfort zone, adding that a child of that age isn’t too young to start building a life of his own.
In her words, she said:
“If you’re 18 years old, you’re not supposed to stay in your parents’ house anymore. If you’re not from a rich home, let a rich home come from you.”
Her message, she explained, was a call for young people to break generational limits and start creating their own success stories rather than waiting for family support.
The comments quickly went viral, dividing opinions online. While some praised her confidence and drive, others argued that her advice was unrealistic given Nigeria’s current economic situation.
Still, Grace Ofure stood by her words, saying independence, discipline, and vision are the real foundations of wealth.
Her remarks have since reignited a wider conversation about parenting, financial readiness, and what it truly means to “grow up” in today’s Nigeria.
