In a recent statement via his official X account, former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress over the country’s economic situation and government spending.
”If the APC can be so callous and so brazen in a first term, I dread to imagine what they will do with a second term,” he wrote.
In his post, Rhodes-Vivour expressed concern about the direction of governance under the APC, he said the conduct of the ruling party during its first term raises serious worries about what Nigerians could face if the party secures another term in power.
According to him, the current administration has shown a level of boldness and indifference that many citizens find troubling and questioned the government’s handling of public finances.
The former governorship candidate noted that officials have repeatedly announced record levels of revenue generation and strong foreign reserve figures, despite these claims, he argued that the reality on the ground does not reflect such financial progress.
Rhodes-Vivour pointed out that the federal government has continued to borrow large amounts of money, he said the pace of borrowing appears to be higher than that of previous administrations in Nigeria’s history.
In his view, this situation raises questions about how the borrowed funds and revenues are being managed, he further stated that many approved budgets have not been properly implemented.
According to him, several contractors working on public projects are still waiting to be paid and suggested that this situation has slowed down development projects across the country and has created frustration among businesses and workers.
Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the economic difficulties currently facing many Nigerians, he said rising costs of living and financial pressure on households have become more severe in recent years, for him, the hardship experienced by citizens contradicts the government’s claims of financial success.See_More…
