Amidst the ongoing offensive missile and drone strike of the Iranian regime on Israel in response to Israel and the US strikes on Iran as President Donald Trump announces ‘major combat operations in Iran despite the ongoing indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran in an effort to ensure that Iran did not obtained a nuclear weapon, a senior official has warned that the Israeli military is preparing for a potential surprise attack from Yemen’s Houthi rebels as the Iran-backed group remains one of the biggest uncertainties in the current conflict.
According to a report made by the Jerusalem Post on Wednesday, 4 March, 2026, a senior official, cautioned in a closed meeting that the Houthis have rebuilt their ballistic missile, and drone capabilities with Iranian assistance and could potentially strike Israel.
He also cautioned that the Yemeni based Houthis group have so far remained on the sidelines of the US-Israeli campaign against the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, sitting on the fence, and not yet intervening, ordering a thorough examination of every launch and emerging terror route to assess any possible connections to the group.
It was learned that their were divided opinions within Israel’s security establishment as some of the Israeli officials believe the Houthis are aware that intervening could bring devastating consequences, and they might be seen as targeting American forces stationed in Israel, violating ceasefire agreements with the US, and risking attack from multiple directions.
However, others senior security official of the State of Israel argue that the Israeli regime under the leadership of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could not afford to lower its guard because their were growing concerns that the Houthis might be preparing a surprise attack, either from the air or on the ground.
Nevertheless, the Israeli Defense Forces has reinforced air defense and air control systems in key areas, focusing on improving monitoring, detection, and interception along the Jordan Valley and surrounding areas.
