Ibadan Security Alert: Police and PCRC Warn Public Over Growing Crime Wave

Residents of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, are gripped by fear following reports of rising kidnapping and armed robbery cases across the city. Areas such as Bodija, Agbowo, Akobo, and Agodi Government Reserve Area have been particularly affected, leaving residents anxious and cautious.

The Bodija Housing Estate Police Division, together with the Police Community Relations Council (PCRC) and the community policing unit, issued an alert warning the public about the surge in criminal activities. The statement emphasized that the desire for quick wealth has driven some individuals to commit violent acts.

Authorities urged residents to take necessary safety measures, remain vigilant, and adhere to updated precautionary guidelines. The notice also highlighted the collective responsibility of ensuring security and encouraged prompt reporting of emergencies to designated police contacts.

According to a statement tagged “Urgent Safety Measures Amid Rising Kidnapping and Armed Robbery Incidents in Areas Including Akobo and Bodija,” the police reinforced the need for awareness and precaution. Residents were advised to be careful when moving around and to immediately report suspicious activities.

Some residents of Bodija Housing Estate expressed relief at the notice but admitted to heightened anxiety. One resident, who spoke anonymously, noted that people now think twice before going out and are more conscious about security than before.
