Nigerian singer and songwriter, Yemi Alade, has opened up about the emotional struggles that come with being in the entertainment industry.
In a heartfelt chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the “Johnny” crooner revealed that behind the glitz and fame lies a deep sense of isolation many artists silently endure.
“This industry is already a lonely place. I’m not about to live my actual life lonely,” she said, her tone reflecting both strength and vulnerability.
The singer hinted at the sacrifices she’s had to make to preserve her mental peace, suggesting that choosing solitude over chaos sometimes comes at a cost.
Fans react to her emotional honesty
The clip, which quickly gained traction online, sparked emotional reactions from fans who empathised with Yemi’s experience.
Many described her words as “powerful and raw,” noting that her openness sheds light on a topic often ignored in the Nigerian entertainment scene, mental health.
One comment read, “If you look closely, she was emotional and lonely in real life. May God comfort everyone going through loneliness.”
Others commended her courage to speak up, saying she voiced what many creatives silently battle with behind the scenes.
On rivalry and respect among female artists
During the interview, Chude asked if fans should expect collaborations between Yemi and other top female acts like Tiwa Savage.
The singer’s response, a calm yet telling silence, spoke volumes. She hinted at preferring peace over unnecessary drama, saying she would “rather just stay clear.”
Her statement reignited online conversations about the lack of unity among female artistes in the Nigerian music industry.
Some defended her stance, while others urged female stars to bridge the perceived divide.
Meanwhile, Yemi also reflected on her early struggles, recalling how she performed at over 300 free shows before fame found her.
