A feminist has called out OPay and the police over the arrest of a 27-year-old woman, Hafsat Abubakar, in connection with a fake notice claiming that the fintech company was shutting down.
The feminist identified on X as @AbujaxQueen stated that she would not remain silent while Abubakar was allegedly being intimidated over the social media post.
Her comments followed reports that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) arrested Abubakar after an investigation into the circulation of the fabricated OPay shutdown notice.
‘I Will Not Stand By and Watch This Girl’
Reacting to the development, @AbujaxQueen said she was concerned about the continued detention of the woman despite her deleting the post and apologising to OPay.
She wrote on X:
“I will NOT stand by and watch this girl @haifah_er_abba get bullied by the police and OPay.
“She deleted the post and apologized. Why is she still being arrested?”
The feminist also disclosed that she had instructed her legal team to examine the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
‘If Her Rights Are Being Violated, We Will Speak Up’
According to @AbujaxQueen, her lawyers would look into the case and determine whether the woman’s rights were being violated.
“I’m instructing my team of lawyers to look into this matter. If her rights are being violated, we will speak up. 🛡️”
She added:
“Women deserve justice, not intimidation.”
Lady Had Earlier Apologised to OPay
Abubakar had previously shared an apology addressed to OPay after posting the information claiming that the company would go on an indefinite break from September 1, 2026.
In the post, she acknowledged that the information was false and misleading, adding that she had deleted her post.
She also stated that OPay’s operations were normal and that there was no planned shutdown.
The apology surfaced after the police identified Abubakar as the alleged operator of the X account linked to the circulation of the fake notice.
