Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has opened up about the extreme lengths she went to during the production of the movie “Abused,” revealing that she stopped bathing for days to authentically portray her character.
The award-winning actress shared these details during a recent appearance on Pulse Fun Facts, a show by Pulse Nigeria. Speaking alongside her colleague Norini Nita, Omotola explained that she took the role to challenge herself but did not anticipate how far she would have to go to achieve physical realism.
To ensure her appearance matched the trauma of an abused woman, Omotola intentionally neglected her personal hygiene. She disclosed that the transformation was necessary for her to “feel” the weight of the role.
“I went on a few days without having my bath just to get into character,” she stated. She further clarified that she went for about four to five days without a bath, focusing only on essential cleaning to maintain the “unkempt” look required by the director.
Beyond her hygiene, Omotola revealed she sat in the scorching sun to appear sweaty and visibly angry for specific scenes. However, this level of immersion came at a high cost. The actress admitted that after filming, she struggled with depression and mental health challenges.
“When I was done with that movie, I really had some mental issues to be honest. I couldn’t get out of the character,” she confessed, noting that the experience taught her the importance of setting boundaries in her professional craft.
The session also touched on her upcoming project, “Mother’s Love,” featuring Norini Nita, which is set for release on March 6th.
Pulse Nigeria reports that the full video featuring these personal anecdotes is available on their verified YouTube channel.
