“I was threatened to stop posting about the killing in Kwara” – Lady

A Nigerian lady has stirred strong debate on social media after revealing that she was threatened and asked to stop posting about killings in Kwara State.

Lady alleges threats over her posts

The lady, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as Phinesmile, shared that she received calls warning her to stop speaking out on the insecurity in Kwara.

In her post, she wrote: “I was threatened to stop posting about the killing in Kwara state. I am beginning to believe the government of kwara supports this killing. Calling me to tell me nonsense won’t stop me from demaining the people in kwara are safe.

“This killing has been on for way too long for us to stay silent. People burnt in their houses, killed in their farm lands, kidnapped and nothing has been done about it. When some are even arrested they get released.

“The mf that called, may your family experience pain, regrets, kidnap, insecurities, and may the world not listen to their cry for help.

“I use my uncle as a point of contact what they did to him, they will do to you.

Her words quickly drew attention online, sparking heated arguments about the situation in the state and the alleged silence of government authorities.

Reactions trail her allegations

Following her claims, several social media users reacted with mixed views. While some supported her boldness, others cautioned her to be more careful in how she voices her concerns.

A user identified as Big Balls wrote: “Sometimes you may be doing the right thing at the wrong time. We should be tact and discreet when posting about certain things…the country is not in the best position now and we all know what Elections in Nigeria involves.

“I think we should consider a lot of things and wait for the security officials to take action and give report before we make conclusions which may be wrong. Ire oo!”

On the other hand, another user, Jabari, took a harsher position against the state government, saying: “It seems those running the affairs of Kwara State are rogues, misfits and bunch of insatiable criminals.

“Else, how do you explain the series of tweets by different twitter handles alleging same pattern of threats for speaking out about killings and calculated massacre in some parts of State, and their demand for proactive government action! How unfortunate can this get?”

Historical warning cited

Adding to the conversation, a user who identified as A simple man recalled a famous statement by late military ruler General Sani Abacha.

Abacha said any insurgency that lasts more than 24hrs the government has a hand in it. Don’t let them silence you. Kwara state government is very complicit in these k!llings and they must pay for it.”

Ongoing concerns

The debate highlights growing public worry about the rising insecurity in parts of Kwara State, where cases of killings, kidnappings, and arson have allegedly gone unchecked for a long time.

Despite repeated calls for intervention, many citizens believe the government has not done enough to address the situation, leaving locals vulnerable to violence.
