Veteran CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour, 67, has revealed that her ovarian cancer has returned, four years after she first battled the disease in 2021.
Speaking on the “Changing the Ovarian Cancer Story” podcast, the celebrated broadcaster shared that she recently underwent another surgery and will soon begin chemotherapy again.
Amanpour described the recurrence as a “fairly rare form” of ovarian cancer that was discovered early, around stage one or two, after she began feeling pelvic pain.
Reflecting on how fortunate she was to have noticed symptoms, she said:
“My doctor told me I was lucky to have symptoms. Most women don’t notice anything until it’s too late.”
Her honesty about the experience echoes her original diagnosis, when she first went public to encourage women to take their health seriously.
Amanpour said she felt it was important to speak up again, hoping her story would inspire others to listen to their bodies and seek medical advice when something feels off.
“I want women to listen to their bodies, go for check-ups, and never ignore pain. Early detection can save lives,” she urged.
The respected journalist also expressed gratitude for having access to excellent healthcare but stressed the need for global equality in treatment.
Supporters worldwide have since praised her courage and openness, calling her a powerful voice for women’s health and cancer awareness.
