“I paid a fine of ₦5,000, only to wake up and find my account with almost ₦2m wiped” – MC Monica cries out

Nigerian comedian and businessman MC Monica has cried out after allegedly losing almost ₦2 million to scammers following a fraudulent message linked to a supposed road safety violation.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, MC Monica explained that he received a message about a road safety fine and clicked on a link provided in the message.

According to him, he proceeded to pay ₦5,000 through the link, only to discover the following morning that almost ₦2 million had been wiped from his bank account.

He expressed uncertainty over whether to blame his service provider or the road safety authorities, while revealing that his account officer informed him that nothing could be done.

In his words, he said

“I don’t know this road safety thing, I don’t know who to blame, whether from my service provider or road safety. Yesterday, I got a message about road safety this thing, I clicked the link, and I paid a fine of ₦5,000.

Only for me to wake up this morning, they have wiped my account. I just called my account officer, and he said there is nothing that will be done.”

The comedian’s experience has drawn attention online, with the incident highlighting the risks of clicking on unsolicited links or making payments through unverified platforms.
