“I only came for my brother’s birthday” – University security allegedly harass man

An alleged case of harassment involving a visitor has raised concern at Elizade University in Ondo State.

Eyewitnesses said the visitor went to the campus “to celebrate his brother’s birthday with friends.”

Sources explained that he arrived with “a cake and other gifts,” but was told by school authorities that “cakes are not permitted on campus.”

The visitor reportedly accepted the rule and said he would “leave the premises peacefully with his friends.”

However, the situation allegedly escalated as they were exiting the campus, with claims that a security official “assaulted and publicly humiliated” the visitor.

One witness said the incident began after the group decided to leave. “We were on our way to our house, as we were leaving the school, the man started shouting on the guy (the visitor) that he should start going,” the friend recounted.

The visitor was said to have responded by asking, “Why are you shouting at me? I’m a visitor. Is this how you treat your visitors?”

According to the account, the security official then “became angry and started demanding for handcuffs.”

The visitor allegedly questioned the action, saying, “Why are you demanding for handcuffs? I only came for my brother’s birthday.”

The witness further alleged that the situation turned violent. “That’s just how this man hit him on the face, not once, twice,” the friend said.

According to the report, as of the time of filing this report, the university management is yet to issue official statement on the matter.
