I Listened To The House Of Reps Speaker Begging Tinubu To Allow Them To Come Back — Abdullahi Reacts

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has expressed strong reservations regarding the conduct and tone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention, raising questions about internal party democracy and decision-making processes.

Abdullahi, a former Minister of Youth Development and Sports under former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Reflecting on the proceedings of the convention, Abdullahi stated, “Well, I mean, it’s quite interesting, I mean, listening and watching the APC convention and listening to the president.”

He continued by noting the tone of the gathering, saying, “Of course, they naturally expect the APC to continue to celebrate their convention in superlative terms and continue to award themselves medals even though they are competing against themselves.”

Addressing the issue of dissent within the ruling party, Abdullahi remarked, “You shouldn’t expect any dissent because you have President Bola Tinubu who decides who gets what within the party.”

The ADC spokesperson further highlighted what he described as a concerning development involving members of the National Assembly. He stated, “I listened to the House of Representatives speaker begging President Bola Tinubu to allow them to come back.”

Expressing his reaction, Abdullahi added, “I mean, and I felt sorry for them. That’s like seeking automatic tickets for parliamentarians. For parliamentarians.”

He went on to outline the implications of such actions on representative governance, stating, “So what that means is that the mandate of the House of Elected Representatives of the people is no longer renewable by the people.”

According to him, the traditional role of the electorate in determining the performance and return of lawmakers is being diminished. He said, “They no longer need the people that they were supposed to represent to decide whether they served them well and they deserve to go back now.”

Abdullahi concluded by attributing decision-making authority to the presidency, stating, “They need President Bola Tinubu sitting in Abuja to decide who among them will get the ticket and who will not.”
