I Hope Those Who Said Defection Of Govs Means Nothing Will Accept Bauchi And Oyo?—Shehu Sani On ADC

In a recent statement via his official X account, former senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on growing speculation about the possible defection of governors from Bauchi and Oyo states.

‎”I hope those who said defection of Governors means nothing will accept Bauchi and Oyo when it eventually happens?” he wrote.

‎In his post, Sani stated that those who previously downplayed the significance of governors defecting from their parties should be ready to maintain the same position if the situation affects other states, he suggested that reactions to political defections in Nigeria are often influenced by personal or party interests rather than consistent principles.

‎He pointed to the ongoing discussions around the potential movement of governors from Bauchi and Oyo, noting that such a development could test the sincerity of those who earlier claimed that defections do not matter, according to him, the real issue is whether political actors will remain consistent when the tables turn.

‎Sani implied that if the governors eventually leave their current party, possibly to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the narrative around defections may quickly change, he questioned whether those who once dismissed defections as irrelevant would still hold the same view.

‎He added that political loyalty and public statements should not be based on convenience, in his view, Nigerians often witness shifting arguments depending on who is affected by a particular political development.

‎Sani highlighted what he sees as double standards in political discourse, he stressed the need for fairness and consistency in evaluating issues such as party defections, regardless of the individuals or regions involved.
