“I Faced Resistance for Wearing the Hijab, People Judged Me” – Nyma Zibiri Opens Up

In a recent interview on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, lawyer and media personality Nyma Akashat Zibiri opened up about her decision to wear the hijab and how it has shaped her life.

According to her, wearing the hijab was a personal choice. She explained that her father, a scholar, did not force her to cover. Instead, after reading his books and learning more about her faith, she became convinced on her own, she and her sisters decided to start wearing the hijab.

At first, it was not easy. Some friends questioned her decision, and a few even reacted strongly. But she stood her ground. She believes choosing to wear the hijab deserves the same respect as choosing not to.

As a lawyer, she expected acceptance in professional spaces. While studying at Lagos State University, she received support from fellow Muslim students. However, she also faced criticism over her appearance despite dressing modestly.

She later became one of the first women to appear on national television in Nigeria wearing a hijab. She said the opportunity meant a lot because she knew her performance would open doors for other Muslim women.

Beyond media, she runs her company, practices law, consults, and farms. She is also passionate about women’s rights, especially issues affecting young girls.

For her, the hijab is not a limitation. She says it makes you stand out and carry yourself with purpose.See_More…
