An elderly single woman has expressed deep loneliness, appealing for companionship as she shared her daily struggle of living alone in her compound.
Her emotional outcry, which surfaced in a short statement shared publicly, has drawn sympathy and conversations around ageing, isolation, and the need for social support for elderly individuals.
Loneliness and the reality of ageing
The woman lamented that she no longer wishes to continue living in solitude, describing her compound as empty and quiet with no one to share her space or daily experiences.
She said her condition has made her yearn for a partner or someone close to keep her company and provide emotional comfort.
“I want somebody to come to me. I don’t want to be sleeping and living alone“ she said.
A broader conversation on isolation
Her statement reflects a wider social issue affecting many elderly people who live alone due to widowhood, separation, or lack of close family ties.
“I’m tired of living alone guys, let me say the truth and let the devil be ashamed. See my compound, only me” she added.
In 2022, similar concerns were raised in community welfare discussions across Nigeria, where advocacy groups called for stronger neighbourhood support systems to reduce loneliness among senior citizens.
