Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Joash Ojo Amupitan, has said that the recurring controversy over election result transmission is being misunderstood, insisting that the real challenge lies in the adequacy of network infrastructure rather than transmission technology itself.
Amupitan made the remarks on Sunday at a Citizen Town Hall meeting in Abuja, where he addressed concerns about delays in uploading election results.
According to him, transmission as a process should not be a major hurdle. “I don’t see the issue of transmission as really a problem. The problem is not even network. The problem I have seen is the adequacy of the network we have,” he stated.
He cited the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as an example, noting that results from such a location should ordinarily be transmitted without difficulty. However, he pointed out that there have been cases where results were not uploaded until the following day, raising questions about infrastructure sufficiency and logistical preparedness.
Amupitan emphasized that election result transmission depends heavily on logistics, stressing that elections are only as effective and credible as the systems that support them. He argued that beyond digital platforms, proper planning, reliable connectivity, and adequate deployment of resources are crucial to ensuring seamless real-time transmission across the country.
He concluded that strengthening network capacity and improving logistics nationwide would significantly reduce delays and enhance confidence in the electoral process.See_More…
