“I don’t even pay myself that much” – Business owner claps back at critics over ₦40k sales rep salary

A Nigerian business owner has sparked heated reactions online after defending her decision to offer a ₦40,000 monthly salary for a sales rep position.

Reacting to the backlash, she expressed shock that people were dragging her over the pay, insisting the job is not as stressful as critics are making it seem.

In a viral video shared on TikTok by @timmy_ally, she explained that the role requires little effort, with resumption from Monday to Saturday, 8:30am to 6pm.

The main duties involve sitting in the shop, handling deliveries on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and dropping off packages at Ikeja.

She added that transport would be provided, stressing that the employee would not be expected to use their own money for errands.

The business owner also explained that the shop barely gets walk-in customers. In her words:

“In the last three months, I can count how many people walked in to buy. My customers are online. I pack like 10 orders daily, all online.”

Defending herself further, she said even as the business owner, she does not pay herself up to ₦40,000 monthly.

She concluded with a blunt remark that has since gone viral:

“Some of you will go and work with Dangote. It’s not me. I don’t pass my power. I beg.”

... has continued to generate mixed reactions online. One commentator wrote, “₦40k for one month is wild,” while another argued, “People forget that small businesses are struggling too.”
