I Don’t Do Things At Night—Saraki Dismisses Working For Tinubu, APC ,Clarifies His Friendship With Wike

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called for reconciliation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing the need for a credible national convention while dismissing claims linking him to support for President Bola Tinubu.

Saraki made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, March 26, 2026, where he addressed internal party dynamics and allegations of political alignment outside the PDP.

Speaking on the importance of strengthening the party ahead of future elections, he said, “This election, that does not take, that is where we are, that is where most of us, we have options, everybody has options.” He added that party members remain committed despite alternatives, stating, “If truly we don’t love PDP, we can’t go to another party to contest, that is just propaganda.”

Saraki noted concerns among aspirants about uncertainty within the party, explaining, “Even in my state, people tell people they want to contest, they say, what are you doing there, you’re wasting your time. You don’t have ticket.”

He emphasised that resolving internal issues and conducting a legitimate convention would restore confidence. According to him, “So a lot of people, because of that, who want to contest, and that is why some of us are excited that if we can push through with this reconciliation, get our convention done this weekend, Sunday, Monday, have it attended by INEC, have the legitimacy of that convention.”

He continued, “By which people are now confident, ah, if this party now conducts primaries for us later in the year, I am good to run, that is the message we want to send out.”

Addressing allegations of hypocrisy and claims that some PDP figures are endorsing President Bola Tinubu, Saraki denied any such involvement. He stated, “You know I’ve said in my opening line, I’m not somebody that says things I’m not going to do.” He added, “Have you heard me, as the president has been in power now for many years, nobody can tell you I’ve sat down like this to meet with people, I’m not, I don’t.”

Responding to suggestions of private meetings, he said, “I don’t do things at night. I’m not a night person, if I’m going to do something, I come, I stick my chest out, this is where I’m going.”

Saraki also addressed his relationship with Nyesom Wike, rejecting claims that it implies political endorsement. He stated, “No, you can’t know, you can’t extrapolate that. My friendship is based on what are we going to do about this party?”

He added, “And I found his style, his views might be different, but that PDP must not die. PDP must be able to provide a platform for people to contest election.”

Saraki concluded by reaffirming his position within the party, stating, “That, I’m not in any way doubt that sincerity where he stands, that’s where I stand. Now, how we do that within the party is what we must achieve.”
