“I cry whenever I hear death reports” – Akpabio speaks on Plateau crisis, calls for unity and peace

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to take responsibility for restoring peace in Plateau State and across the country, emphasizing that lasting stability cannot come from foreign bodies.

Speaking at the Jos Polo Field during the official reception of defectors into the APC, Akpabio stressed that peace will only return when Nigerians unite and play their part.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, he reassured residents that the federal government is fully committed to ending the ongoing crisis in Plateau and other troubled regions.

“It is not outsiders who will come and give you peace. It is we, Nigerians, who must bring peace. We must learn to live together. Without peace, there can be no progress,” he said.

Akpabio said the president is deeply concerned about the continued violence in the state. He grew emotional as he spoke about the loss of lives, describing each incident as heartbreaking.

“I cry whenever I hear that a human being whether child or adult has been killed,” he further explained.

He reminded the crowd that the crisis in Plateau did not start today, noting that reports being circulated date as far back as 2010, when he served as a governor and witnessed massive destruction firsthand.

Akpabio acknowledged the scale of displacement and bloodshed but promised that renewed efforts from the federal government would focus on restoring stability once and for all.

He urged Plateau residents to support President Tinubu and the APC, insisting that development and lasting peace will only come through unity and cooperation.
