A 24-year-old lady has spoken candidly about her decision to remain single and reject societal pressures to alter herself to attract men.
In a statement shared online, she emphasised that she has never been in a relationship and refuses to change her appearance or personality for a man.
“Like, changing myself for a man? Do you think I wake up every day like, ‘Might as well get dressed and see if a man will like me today’? Do I look dumb?” she said.
Criticism of prescribed femininity
She criticised advice often given to single women to appear more “feminine” or demure, calling it unrealistic and harmful.
“Do you want me to sit here, be demure, and just bring myself down just so a man will like me? I’d rather be alone for the rest of my life than perform,” she added.
She explained that these expectations can contribute to self-hate and encourage women to compromise their individuality for the sake of approval.
Prioritising self over relationships
The woman revealed that men are largely de-centred from her life, highlighting her commitment to self-fulfillment over conforming to external expectations.
“I’ve been alone for so long. Men are completely de-centered from my life,” she said.
Her statement has spark conversations online about the societal pressures women face to attract men, the importance of self-respect, and redefining personal happiness independently of romantic relationships.
