“I can no longer feed my children” – Canada-based single father of 3 begs for help to return to Nigeria

A Nigerian-Canadian single father of three has appealed to the public for financial assistance to help him relocate his family from Canada to Nigeria after facing prolonged financial hardship.

Barrister Isaac Olusegun, a legal practitioner, shared his emotional story in a LinkedIn post, revealing that he has struggled to secure stable employment since 2024 despite submitting numerous job applications.

According to him, the difficult situation has left him unable to provide adequately for his children, forcing him to depend on loans and the generosity of kind-hearted people to put food on the table.

“I Can No Longer Meet My Family’s Basic Needs”

In his public appeal, Isaac explained that his family’s financial condition worsened after his Canada Child Benefit had yet to be released while his Ontario Works assistance, which provided about CAD 377 monthly, came to an end.

He said the loss of income made it increasingly difficult to care for his three children.

“I am a single father raising three children, and I am reaching out for help during one of the most difficult periods of my life. Due to my current financial circumstances, I am unable to meet my family’s basic needs.”

“My Canada Child Benefit has not yet been released, and my Ontario Works assistance of approximately $377 per month has ended. As a result, I have been relying on loans and the generosity of others simply to provide food for my children.”

Although he said he remains hopeful of securing employment after recently receiving encouraging responses to his applications, Isaac disclosed that his immediate priority is relocating his family to Nigeria.

“My children have also experienced disruptions to their schooling, which has made it extremely difficult for me to seek and maintain employment.”

“Although I have been actively applying for jobs since 2024, I have not yet secured stable employment. I remain hopeful, however, as I have recently begun receiving encouraging responses to my applications and believe that opportunities are within reach.”

“At this time, my greatest need is assistance to relocate my family to Nigeria, where I have an established support network and can begin rebuilding our lives.”

He added that any financial support, regardless of the amount, would help provide food for his children and contribute toward the relocation expenses.

Fundraising Campaign Attracts Thousands in Donations

To achieve his goal, Isaac launched an online fundraising campaign with a target of CAD 6,000.

As of the time his story gained attention, the campaign had already received CAD 3,588 in donations, bringing him closer to his target.

He also encouraged those who could not contribute financially to help by sharing his appeal with others.

Lawyer Opens Up About What Led To His Financial Struggles

Speaking about the circumstances surrounding his ordeal, Isaac claimed that his problems began after filing lawsuits against the Canadian government and other institutions in Ontario.

“To provide some background: I had filed lawsuits against the Government of Canada and other powerful institutions in Ontario. In response, the government swiftly enacted laws that effectively curtailed the authority of organisations such as CPA Ontario and the Ottawa-Carleton School Board.”

“Feeling pressured and with few options, I left for Nigeria in April 2025 and returned around January of this year, hoping that matters would have settled down in my absence.”

“However, since my return, I have experienced what I believe to be retaliation from Canadian government employees, affecting both me and my three children. I have been unable to secure work or access any form of benefits during this time.”
