Hungary to Expel Seven Ukrainians Detained Over Cash and Gold Transport

Hungary has announced plans to expel seven Ukrainian nationals who were detained while allegedly transporting cash and gold from Austria to Ukraine, government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs said in a post on X.

Kovacs stated that the group was allegedly supervised by a former general of the Ukrainian Security Service and included a former major of the Ukrainian Air Force acting as deputy, with additional assistance from individuals reportedly with military experience.

Authorities said the individuals were intercepted during the transport operation, though further details surrounding the circumstances of their detention were not immediately disclosed.

The Hungarian government confirmed that the detained Ukrainians will be expelled, signalling the conclusion of its handling of the case at the national level.

Ukraine has not publicly responded to the allegations, and it remains unclear whether diplomatic discussions are ongoing regarding the incident.
