How Police Falsely Accused My Brother Of Selling Hemp At PoS Stand — Sibling

Confidence Nwazunku, a Lagos based nail technician, has cried out over the alleged wrongful arrest and detention of her nineteen year old brother, Ifeanyi, by officers from the Bar Beach Police Station. The teenager, who recently moved from Ebonyi State to start a point of sale business, was reportedly picked up during a mid morning raid at his stand in Victoria Island. He now faces serious criminal charges in a Yaba court.

According to an interview posted by Punch Newspaper on March 1, 2026, while recounting the ordeal, Confidence stated that her “brother was crying profusely and begging her, my sister, help me, they are taking me to court and prison.” The distraught woman explained that she had brought her brother to the city only last December to learn a trade. She insisted that the young man is completely innocent of the allegations.

The police have officially accused the teenager of smoking and selling Indian hemp at his place of business, claiming he constituted a public nuisance. Confidence, however, vehemently denied these claims, noting that her brother has never been involved with drugs. She expressed deep frustration over the legal process, revealing that she had to pay a significant sum to a lawyer just to have him plead not guilty during his first appearance.

During the court proceedings, the case was adjourned until late March, and the young man was subsequently transferred to the Kirikiri maximum security prison. Confidence mentioned that the bail conditions are extremely difficult for her to meet, requiring two sureties and a payment of two hundred thousand naira. She remains devastated by the situation, especially since she has not yet informed their elderly mother in the village about the incarceration.

The nail technician is now appealing to the government, human rights activists, and well meaning Nigerians to intervene and investigate the matter thoroughly. She believes her brother is a victim of a systemic injustice, pointing out that other individuals arrested during the same raid were released under questionable circumstances. Without urgent help, she fears the nineteen year old will remain behind bars for a crime she firmly maintains he did not commit.See_More…
