The Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT has handed over five bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing about 500 kilogrammes to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Festac Area Command, following a successful intelligence-driven operation in Lagos.
The consignment was formally transferred on Friday, after naval operatives intercepted the illicit drugs on February 18, 2026, around the Abule Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant Base Information Officer, SLt Doris A. F. Nwomoko, the seizure was made by the Quick Response Team of NNS BEECROFT acting on credible intelligence. The team reportedly stopped a van suspected of conveying illicit substances within the area and discovered the drugs concealed inside.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the interception reflects the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts to combat criminal activities within the nation’s maritime environment.
He noted that the feat aligns with the strategic leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, in strengthening maritime security and inter-agency collaboration.
Adams-Aliu commended the vigilance and professionalism of the naval personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to working closely with other security agencies to secure Nigeria’s coastal corridors.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that could aid security agencies in combating criminal networks.
The seized narcotics were received by the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, for further investigation and necessary action.
The handover underscores the growing synergy between the Nigerian Navy and the NDLEA in dismantling drug trafficking networks and enhancing security within Lagos and adjoining maritime areas.
