Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has condemned the recent killings in Plateau State, describing the attack as another tragic reminder of Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.
Reacting to reports of a deadly assault on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos during Palm Sunday, Amaechi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and questioned how long citizens would continue to endure such violence.
“How long must the people of Plateau wait for relief? How long must Nigerians endure sleepless nights, living in fear of violence and death?” he asked.
The former governor criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of failing to confront insecurity with the urgency and seriousness required.
“The Tinubu-led government has failed to confront this menace with the boldness it demands. Enough of the callousness,” he said.
Amaechi described the victims as innocent Nigerians whose lives must be protected, stressing that the continued killings by criminals, bandits, and other non-state actors are unacceptable.
“These are human beings — our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and children — being slaughtered daily while those entrusted with protecting lives and property look the other way,” he added.
He called for immediate and decisive action by the government, insisting that insecurity must be tackled without delay.
“Insecurity must be addressed decisively and immediately. Tomorrow is too late,” he said.
Drawing from his experience as former governor of Rivers State, Amaechi maintained that criminality can be effectively confronted with the right political will.
“We proved in Rivers State that criminality can be fought and defeated. It can be done in Nigeria too,” he stated.
The latest attack in Plateau has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger security measures, as citizens and stakeholders continue to demand urgent government intervention to halt the cycle of violence.
