Houthi Rebels Declare Potential Entry Into Conflict Against U.S. and Israel, Stress Independence

According to a report by The Times of Israel on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who maintain close ties with Iran, have stated they could join the ongoing conflict against the United States and Israel if they see it in their interest, while emphasizing that the decision remains fully under their control.

Senior Houthi representatives, speaking anonymously due to media restrictions, highlighted that their movement shares historical and ideological connections with Iran, viewing Tehran as a key ally. However, they made it clear that participation in the current war will be determined exclusively by Yemeni priorities, without external influence dictating their actions.

This announcement comes amid rising regional tensions, where the Houthis have already demonstrated their ability to impact global security. During the recent Israel-Hamas escalation, Houthi forces repeatedly targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea, significantly disrupting international shipping lanes that annually carry goods worth around one trillion dollars.

In addition to maritime operations, the rebels have conducted drone attacks targeting Israeli sites, signaling their operational capacity without formally committing to direct involvement in the broader conflict between Iran and Western powers.

The group’s statements underline a dual strategy: maintaining ideological solidarity with Iran while asserting full autonomy over tactical and strategic choices in the ongoing war, highlighting Yemen’s growing influence in regional dynamics.
