The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a series of humanitarian activities benefiting prison inmates and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) instead of personal celebrations.
Speaker Abbas sponsored registration fees for 100 inmates at the Kuje Custodial Centre to sit for the 2025 NABTEB and NECO examinations—57 for NABTEB and 43 for NECO—emphasizing education as a tool for rehabilitation. He also paid over N3 million in bail bonds to secure the release of nine inmates from Zaria Medium Correctional Centre, while providing food relief to IDPs at Kabusa Camp, including over 1,000 bags of rice.
The Speaker’s wife, Hajia Fatima Abbas-Tajudeen, donated N2 million to the IDPs, while senior aides and lawmakers contributed additional support. Medical personnel from Nizamiye Hospital, Abuja, offered free healthcare services to the displaced.
In a statement, Speaker Abbas said, “This celebration goes beyond personal milestones; it is about extending hope, giving second chances, and investing in the future of our brothers and sisters who, though confined today, still carry potential for greatness tomorrow.”
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to policies that protect vulnerable Nigerians, promote education, and restore dignity, describing leadership as encompassing empathy, service, and compassion.
