HoS lauds Buni over payment of N7.9bn gratuities

The Yobe Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Abdullahi Musa-Shehu, has commended Gov. Mai Mala Buni for approving N7.9 billion to clear gratuities of the state and local governments’ retirees.

This was contained in a statement signed by Alhaji Alhassan Mamudo, the spokesman, Office of the HoS, on Thursday in Damaturu.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the payment covered January 2020 to May 2025.

Musa-Shehu, was quoted as saying this while receiving an “Award of excellence” on behalf of Buni by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).

He said that the approval was a mark of compassion and unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare, which would accelerate human capital development and public service transformation.

The HoS also commended the Governor for making prompt payment of salaries, provision of affordable houses, payment of furniture allowance and distribution of welfare materials to workers as priorities of his administration.

“The Buni-led administration, had strengthened the state’s civil service through massive recruitment and training programmes both within and outside Nigeria,” Musa-Shehu said.

The statement also qouted Alhaji Bulama Yusuf, the state Focal Person, Training and Succession Planning, as saying the governor had directed the establishment of a succession plan and training guide document across Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s).

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to workers’ capacity building, saying there were 34 Permanent Secretaries at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) and 149 civil servants at ASCON currently undergoing training.

Dr Funke Adepoju, Director General of ASCON, commended Buni’s visionary leadership and partnership with the College.

She said that the large number of Yobe’s contingents at ASCON underscored the administration’s commitment to strong investment in human capital development.

Alhaji Abas Bizi, the Permanent Secretary at the Manpower Development, thanked ASCON for recognising Buni’s visionary leadership and investment in civil servants.(NAN)www.nannews.ng
