Gunmen attacked Otti’s advance team, not his convoy — CPS

By Ihechinyere Chigemeri-Uwom

Abia Government has confirmed that gunmen attacked an advance team working for Gov. Alex Otti in Imo, but said that the governor’s convoy was not part of the movement.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ukoha Ukoha, made this known in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday.

Ukoha said that the three-member advance team was heading to the Sam Mbakwe Airport in the early hours of the day when their vehicle came under fire along the Umuowa–Ihite  axis of Imo.

He said that the incident, which occurred shortly before the airport junction, left the officials shaken but unharmed.

He dismissed social media reports suggesting that Otti’s convoy was targeted, saying that the governor was nowhere near the route at the time.

“In the early hours of today, Dec. 2nd, a three-member advance team from the Office of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, on duty to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State, was attacked by unidentified gunmen.

“The incident occurred between Umuowa and Ihite junction, shortly before the Sam Mbakwe Airport Junction in Imo State.

“The general public is hereby informed that the convoy of Gov. Otti was not involved in this attack, and no live was lost during the unfortunate incident,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)emeri-Uwom
