Gunmen have reportedly launched an attack on the old Oyo National Park, located in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone, with some fatalities confirmed. The exact number of casualties remains unclear as of Wednesday.
Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, saying police and other security agencies are en route to the scene. “Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the National Park,” he said.
Ayanlade added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, along with other service chiefs, is heading to the location. Tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units have been deployed to secure the area and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Authorities have urged residents in the vicinity to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the investigation continues.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be determined, and police have appealed for calm while the situation unfolds.
