‎A Northern interest group, Arewa 100% Focus, has called on the state governors to judiciously use the monthly revenues shared by the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

‎The group said the call had become necessary so that such allocations could have impact on the welfare of Nigerians and development of the country.

‎Its President, Dr Abubakar Fakai, gave the advice at the inaugural ceremony for the group’s leadership in Abuja on Thursday.

‎Fakai expressed concern over the kind of projects executed by some governors, which are not commensurate with heavy allocations they received monthly.

‎According to him, the removal of petrol subsidy gives the governors an avenue to have bigger allocations, which do not impact the lives of the masses of Nigeria.

‎“Everybody can feel the kind of hardship we are facing today as a country.

‎“We are seriously not happy, and we are calling on Nigerian leaders, particularly President Bola Tinubu, to call the governors to order for them to do the right thing.

‎“This is because it is the masses that are suffering the effect of removing the subsidy. And while we all supported it, we expect it was going to bring a lot of change for good for Nigeria.

‎“What we are seeing today is really tough. Everybody is feeling it. So, it is very unfortunate, and the leaders in authorities, even our elders, the elders of Arewa should also intervene,” he said.

‎Fakai urged the leaders to call all the governors, especially

‎Northern governors to order.

‎“The opportunity given today is not for them to enrich themselves. It is for them to work for the masses, and for the development of this country” he said.

‎He said that the group was planning to bridge the gap between governors and their people by engaging governments across Northern states to enhance poverty reduction and employment creation for the youths in the region.

‎“Arewa 100% Focus is a movement that is focused towards initiating so many activities, starting from creating employment opportunities to our teaming youth in the region, seeing how we can provide political solution.

‎“The group will also be engaging our teeming young people within the region, and create more awareness for them to have a better understanding of the effort of our leaders.

‎“We understand that we have a lot of gap between us and our leaders, so that is one of the reasons that the Arewa 100% Focus came in place.

‎“This is imperative so that we can be able to work closely with them to close that gap, so that we will have so many benefits for our teaming youth and the region.” (NAN)
