The Network for Peace and Development (NPD) has commended the successful rescue of the 24 students abducted from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The schoolgirls were kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, November 17, when armed attackers stormed the school, killing the vice principal and injuring a security guard. One student managed to escape shortly after the incident, while the remaining girls were freed on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Moses Adamu, the NPD praised the federal government and the security agencies involved in the operation. Adamu noted that President Bola Tinubu’s swift directive to security forces ensured a coordinated and effective rescue effort.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chief of Defence Staff, the service chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, and the personnel who carried out the mission. According to him, the NPD provided support by supplying community intelligence and mobilising local hunters throughout the eight-day search.
The group expressed condolences over the death of Malami Hassan Makuku, the school’s vice principal who was killed during the attack, and urged authorities to intensify measures to strengthen security in schools across Nigeria.
