Group Commends DSS, EFCC Over Prosecution of Ex-AGF Abubakar Malami

A civil society organisation, the Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV), has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the ongoing prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

The group described the action as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the nation’s security and anti-graft agencies to accountability and the rule of law, irrespective of the status of the persons involved.

In a statement issued on Monday in Lagos, CAIDOV’s Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, commended the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi and Olanipekun Ola Olukoyede, EFCC chairman, for what the group termed renewed determination to ensure that no individual is above the law.

Soloki said the prosecution signals a positive shift in the fight against impunity, noting that it would strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s justice system and serve as a strong deterrent to public officials who might be tempted to abuse their positions.

He urged the DSS and EFCC to remain professional, transparent, and guided strictly by due process in the conduct of the case, while calling on other relevant institutions to provide the necessary support to ensure justice is served.

The group also appealed to the judiciary to handle the matter with diligence and without unnecessary delays, stressing that timely delivery of justice is critical to sustaining the fight against corruption and abuse of office.

CAIDOV reaffirmed its support for all lawful efforts aimed at promoting accountability, good governance, and the protection of citizens’ rights in Nigeria, and called on a citizens to support the fight against abuse of office by public officers.
