Gov Adeleke’s re-election, victory for continuity—COSEYL

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone, has described the re-election of Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke as Governor of Osun State as a victory for democratic choice, continuity, and the principle that political power ultimately belongs to the people.

In a statement issued on Tuesday through the President General (PG) COSEYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the body commended all relevant stakeholders who contributed to the conduct of the election.

He urged every political actor to respect the outcome of the democratic process and preserve the peace of Osun State.

While congratulating Governor Adeleke on his victory at the August 15th Governorship election in Osun State, COSEYL declared that a renewed mandate is not a blank cheque but rather a renewed social contract with the people.

He advised the governor to see his victory as a fresh responsibility to work even harder for the ordinary people of Osun State.

“We expect the governor’s second term to be characterised by accelerated development, greater accountability, youth empowerment, massive employment opportunities, quality education, healthcare delivery, infrastructure renewal, agricultural development, workers’ welfare, security, and an administration that remains accessible to the people.”

He said that COSEYL expects the Adeleke administration to place the youth question at the center of its second-term agenda.

“Nigerian youths are not merely election-day crowds, social-media foot soldiers, or instruments of political mobilization,” he said.

According to him, young people are stakeholders in governance and must be given meaningful opportunities to participate in economic and political development.

The body therefore called on Governor Adeleke to use his renewed mandate to create an Osun State where young people can dream, work, build businesses, acquire skills, and prosper without being forced to leave their communities in search of opportunities.

COSEYL also called on the opposition and all candidates who participated in the election to accept the outcome with maturity and patriotism.

The PG said that COSEYL, as a foremost youth advocacy organisation committed to democracy, justice, equity, good governance, and the protection of citizens’ democratic rights, commends the people of Osun State for participating in the electoral process and for making their voices heard.

The body, while congratulating Gov. Adeleke on his well-deserved victory and re-election at the just-concluded Osun State Governorship Election, equally congratulates the good people of Osun State for once again demonstrating that the ballot remains one of the most powerful instruments through which citizens can reward performance, defend democracy, and determine the direction of

COSEYL expects the governor’s second term to be characterised by accelerated development, greater accountability, youth empowerment, massive employment opportunities, quality education, healthcare delivery, infrastructure renewal, agricultural development, workers’ welfare, security, and an administration that remains accessible to the people.

They urged all political leaders, supporters, and their respective structures to place the peace, unity, and development of the state above partisan differences.

“Your re-election has given you another opportunity to write your name in the history of Osun State through transformative and people-centered governance. Do not disappoint them; let the second term be bigger than the first in vision, stronger in execution, and deeper in its impact on ordinary citizens; let the young people of Osun see the government not as a distant institution but as a partner in their aspirations,” he said.

The youth body appealed to Gov. Adeleke to ensure that workers, pensioners, students, farmers, traders, artisans, entrepreneurs, and vulnerable citizens feel the direct impact of government, adding that his renewed mandate should become a renewed commitment to justice, accountability, inclusion, and development.

COSEYL prayed to God to grant him wisdom, courage, good health, and the determination required to deliver an even more impactful second term.
