“God will judge you people” – Activist slams top Nigerian pastors

A trending video posted by The Benin Blogger has stirred arguments about the role of top Nigerian pastors in politics and governance, especially under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The short clip, which runs for about one minute and forty-eight seconds, features General Asabuja, a cleric and activist, openly criticising Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Pastor Tunde Bakare for allegedly applying double standards when speaking about governments.

In his words, Asabuja recalled how Pastor Adeboye constantly spoke against the leadership of former President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing church leaders of not giving Jonathan peace of mind at the time.

We saw what Pastor Adeboye did during Jonathan’s administration. They did not let him rest. They fought Goodluck Jonathan. Church people, General Overseer. God will judge you people,” he said.

The cleric wondered why the same pastors who were quick to condemn Jonathan have not spoken against President Tinubu, despite the country’s worsening security situation and increasing poverty.

He insisted that their silence was obvious. “Adeboye no go see say, Tinubu no dey do well. Adeboye no go see say, the government no dey do well. Goodluck Jonathan time, una see wetin Adeboye do,” Asabuja declared.

Asabuja went further to suggest that the pastors’ silence could be linked to ethnic ties, alleging that their refusal to speak out was because Tinubu is from their region.

Now, una no go talk. Because na una brother. Na una friend. Na una fellow Yoruba. Na una Oga dey for seat,” he added.
