The Ghana Police Service has arrested a Nigerian national, Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, alongside nine others over an alleged human trafficking and cyber-enabled fraud syndicate operating in the country, while rescuing nine Nigerian victims said to have been lured into internet fraud.
The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed the development in a video update shared on X, detailing how intelligence-led operations dismantled the suspected criminal network.
According to Donkor, operatives of the Tema Regional Police Command, working through the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, carried out the operation on July 3, 2026, at Mataheko, Afienya, in the Tema area, where they arrested 10 suspects linked to internet-related fraudulent activities.
She identified the suspects as Collins Francis Olayi Ojo, Matthew Balogun, Jahid Bello, Abdul Rahman Nufizi, Talent Sinevi, Prey Morrison, Lawal Abdul Aziz, David Ogogona, Gift Prince and Kingsley Honest.
The suspects were arrested at an apartment allegedly being used as the operational base for the cybercrime activities.
Donkor said preliminary investigations revealed that Ojo was the alleged coordinator and leader of the syndicate.
He is accused of recruiting and transporting nine Nigerian nationals from Nigeria to Ghana by road before forcing them into cyber-enabled fraudulent activities.
“Preliminary investigations established that Collins Francis Olayi Ojo is the coordinator and leader of the group. He is accused of facilitating the movement of nine Nigerian nationals from Nigeria to Ghana by road and subjecting them to cyber-enabled fraudulent activities under his direction,” Donkor said.
She explained that the nine Nigerians were identified by investigators as victims of human trafficking and exploitation rather than suspects.
The victims have since been rescued and relocated to a safe facility pending further action by the authorities.
During a search of the apartment, police recovered 28 laptop computers and nine mobile phones believed to have been used in carrying out the alleged fraudulent activities.
The electronic devices have been secured and will undergo digital forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Donkor further disclosed that Ojo has already been arraigned before the Accra High Court, where he was remanded in custody.
She added that investigations are continuing to identify and arrest other individuals believed to be connected to the alleged trafficking and cybercrime network. (SaharaReporters)
