FRSC Arrests 16 Drivers For Overspeeding In Ogun

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has arrested 16 motorists for overspeeding along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Expressway during a special enforcement patrol.

The operation, carried out on Tuesday, was led by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, alongside the Head of Operations, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole.

Odunsi-Oyewole said the exercise forms part of the FRSC’s 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal aimed at reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries by 10 per cent nationwide.

He noted that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of road crashes in Ogun State, adding that officers deployed a laser radar gun to detect speed violations and ensure compliance with speed-limiting regulations.

“Sixteen offenders were booked for overspeeding, and speed-limiting devices were installed in their vehicles where necessary,” the statement said.

The Sector Commander warned drivers against overspeeding and overloading, stressing that both practices significantly increase the risk of fatal accidents.

He assured road users that the special intervention patrol would continue throughout the yuletide season as part of ongoing efforts to promote safer driving and reduce crashes across the state.
