FRSC arraigns 60 motorists in Benue over road infractions

By Nicholas Dechi

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue Command, has arraigned 60 motorists during a mobile court in Makurdi for various traffic offences, as part of efforts to curb road crashes during the ember months.

The FRSC Corps Commander in Benue, Kehinde Dahunsi, disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after monitoring the exercise codenamed Operation Zero.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 60 motorists were arraigned, 56 convicted and four were discharged by the trial Magistrate, Ngutor Shabu.

Dahunsi explained that the mobile court exercise, usually organised during the ember months, was designed to check the excesses of motorists and enforce compliance with traffic regulations.

According to him, the operation zero campaign commenced on December 15, 2025, and is scheduled to end on January 15, 2026, across the country.

He said that the major focus of the exercise was to address overloading and ensure the installation and use of speed-limiting devices in vehicles.

“We want vehicles to be installed with speed limit devices to curtail the rate of crashes on our roads,” he said.

Dahunsi expressed concern over the alarming rate of vehicle overloading, noting that it significantly contributed to road accidents.

“The level of overloading we are seeing is very high, and we want to curb it to reduce crashes, which are sometimes caused by overloading,” he added.

He further stated that the FRSC was also monitoring and prosecuting other traffic violations as part of its commitment to ensuring safer roads for all users. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
