The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has returned to his childhood residence at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos, in an emotional visit that inspired officers, families, and young residents of the base.
The visit, which took place on February 2, 2026, formed part of the Air Chief’s official inspection programme but turned into a nostalgic reunion with his past.
Speaking during the visit, Aneke said his journey reflected the possibilities within the Nigerian Air Force community.
“This place shaped my values of discipline, service, and perseverance. It reminds us that with hard work and dedication, humble beginnings can lead to the highest levels of leadership,” he said.
He recalled growing up in the flat units with his father, a retired Air Warrant Officer, and noted that the environment played a major role in his personal development.
“I learned early in life that commitment to duty and respect for others are the foundations of success,” the CAS added.
Residents, especially children and mothers, trooped out to welcome the Air Chief, chanting words of admiration and encouragement.
Responding to the children, he urged them to remain focused on their goals.
“Stay disciplined, remain committed to your dreams, and never underestimate where you come from. Your environment can shape an extraordinary future,” Aneke told them.
He also announced a welfare concession for Air Women of the rank of Warrant Officer and above.
“We are granting greater flexibility in residential choices to strengthen family unity and welfare,” he disclosed.
The CAS further inspected newly built housing units and the base hospital, reaffirming the NAF’s commitment to improving infrastructure and personnel welfare.
