Fresh attack in Kwara as bandits kidnap pregnant woman, nursing mothers, children

Panic spread through Isapa community in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday evening after bandits invaded the town and kidnapped 11 residents.

The incident happened around 6 pm, coming just days after a similar attack in nearby Eruku town.

Community confirms abductions

Eyewitnesses told reporters that between 20 and 30 attackers stormed the community while moving with a large herd of cattle.

The gunmen were said to have fired repeatedly, forcing residents to flee and seek safety.

An elderly woman was struck by a stray bullet, raising further fears about the rising insecurity in the area.

Hours after the incident, bullet-marked walls and damaged doors were seen in several homes, while spent shells were recovered from different locations.

Community leaders confirmed that 11 people were taken, including seven members of the same family.

Among those abducted are a pregnant woman, two nursing mothers, and several young children.

Names of victims released

The kidnapped residents were identified as Talatu Kabiru, Magaji, Kande, Hadiza, Mariam, Saima, Habibat, Fatima Yusufu, Sarah Sunday, Lami Fidelis, and Haja Na Allah.

Sources said the attackers overpowered the community quickly and led the victims into the bush before help arrived.

Recent attacks raise concerns

Monday’s incident follows last week’s invasion of a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, where three worshippers were killed and several others abducted, including the pastor.

Those victims were released to the Kwara State Government on Sunday, but residents now fear the attacks may continue.
