Four Arraigned Over Murder of Osun LG Chairman

Four suspects allegedly involved in the murder of the late Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Osun State, Remi Abass, were arraigned on Wednesday before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The defendants — Abubakar Kabiru (aka Jeje, 38), Tajudeen Opeyemi (30), Akeem Agbomojo (28), and Akintoye Olayemi (40) — all from Ikire and Apomu in Osun State, appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

They face charges of terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and murder in connection with Abass’s killing on February 17, 2024, in Ikire.

The prosecution, represented by A.S. Oyeyemi on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, presented the amended charge file numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/170/2025. The defendants were represented by Sunday Adebayo, while Muhydeen Adeoye held a watching brief for the nominal complainants.

The three-count charge includes: Alleging that the defendants conspired, aided, and instigated acts of terrorism in various towns and villages across Osun State, in violation of Section 26(1)(2)(a)(b)(c) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Accusing the defendants of conspiring to illegally possess firearms, including three pump-action rifles, contrary to Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004.

Charging the suspects with the murder of Hon. Remi Abass, an offence punishable under Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Act, Cap 38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The court proceedings continue as the defendants face serious criminal charges that carry severe penalties under Nigerian law.
