Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has obtained her certificate of clearance as the Labour Party candidate for the House of Representatives election in Owerri Federal Constituency.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Anyanwu-Akeredolu said her decision to contest for the lower chamber followed efforts to promote unity and stability within the party.
The former Ondo First Lady said some supporters were disappointed that she did not secure the party’s senatorial ticket.
“I understand that some may feel disappointed that I did not clinch the Senatorial ticket. Indeed, the decision to transition to the House of Representatives race was not an easy one,” she noted.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu said the decision became necessary because the party was rebuilding after internal crises and legal disputes.
“However, it became necessary in the overriding interest of party unity and stability, especially at a time when our great party is working collectively to rebuild after a prolonged period bedevilled by internal crisis and court actions.
“I chose to be a team player in a party led by a fellow woman — one of the major reasons I joined the Labour Party in the first place,” she said.
The Imo-born politician said her mission remained focused on promoting female representation and purposeful leadership.
Her words: “I wish to reiterate that my mission remains unchanged, regardless of the chamber in which I eventually serve in the National Assembly.
“[My mission is] to advance female representation in elective positions and provide compassionate, courageous, and purposeful leadership anchored on experience, credibility, competence, and service to humanity.”
Anyanwu-Akeredolu urged her supporters to remain committed to the political journey ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Let us continue this journey together with renewed determination and hope until we reach our destination in 2027,” she said.
