Five Policemen Killed, Two Injured in Clash with Bandits in Bauchi

 

Five policemen have been killed during a gun battle with bandits in Sabon Sara village, located in the Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, according to a statement from the State Command.

Two other officers sustained various injuries, while a number of bandits were also reported killed in the confrontation.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, released a statement to journalists in the State on Sunday evening detailing the incident.

Wakil explained that the officers were part of a Tactical Team that included the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID). They were ambushed by unidentified Fulani youths while conducting visibility policing patrols aimed at preventing and managing farmer-herder conflicts in and around Sabon Sara Village in Darazo.

Those killed in the attack were identified as follows: DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).

He stated, “As we strive towards creating a crime-free state, the detrimental activities of criminal elements seeking to profit at the expense of law-abiding citizens have compelled us to pursue them. We are pleased that our personnel did not fall short of expectations, successfully neutralising a significant number of the bandits during the gunfight.”

“The Bauchi State Police Command regretfully informs the public of this unfortunate and tragic incident involving combined police tactical teams on an intelligence-led visibility patrol within Sabon Sara village, near Darazo.”

On 22nd November 2025, at approximately 12:40 PM, intelligence received from a Good Samaritan indicated that at around 11:30 AM, a Tactical Team comprising the RRS, Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, AKU, and SID was ambushed by unidentified Fulani youths while on patrol to prevent and manage farmer-herder conflicts in the area.

Wakil continued, “Unfortunately, the ambush resulted in the deaths of the following officers:
1. DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID)
2. ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF)
3. Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF)
4. Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF)
5. Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU)

“Additionally, the following officers sustained various injuries:
1. Inspector Isah Musa (SID)
2. Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID)”

The Police Spokesman noted that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Auwalu Ilu, led a team of reinforcements to the scene, rescuing and evacuating both the injured and deceased personnel to the general hospital in Darazo for medical treatment, as well as depositing the remains at the morgue.

He mentioned that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the attack in the area; the Command remains fully committed to bringing the criminals behind this heinous act to justice.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, conducted an on-the-spot assessment at the scene of the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased officers, assuring the public that the Command will uphold its mandate.

“While this task has not been easy, in line with our constitutional duties, we remain steadfast, tireless, and relentless in our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property,” he assured.
