The Minister of the Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the Federal Government is currently reviewing 170 applications from foreign nationals seeking Nigerian citizenship.
Tunji-Ojo disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, noting that the review is being conducted by the Citizenship Advisory Committee, which is responsible for assessing and recommending applications for President Bola Tinubu’s approval.
“Before us, for review, is a total of 170 applications from foreigners across the globe applying for citizenship,” he said.
The minister described Nigerian citizenship as “a valuable asset that requires careful consideration,” assuring that the government would uphold integrity and merit in the approval process.
“We hereby assure Nigerians that we will prioritise integrity and proven character above all else,” he added.
Tunji-Ojo explained that the committee includes representatives from key government institutions such as the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
