The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to ending insurgency in the North-East following an operational visit by the Minister of Defence and Minister of State for Defence to Maiduguri.
The ministers, who visited the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai on March 31, commended troops for recent gains in the counter-insurgency campaign.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, told the ministers that over 280 terrorists were neutralised during operations conducted in the Ramadan period.
He added that troops also disrupted logistics networks of insurgents and rescued abducted civilians across the theatre.
The Minister of Defence said the progress recorded by the military showed improved coordination and determination to defeat terrorism.
He reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore peace in the region.
The visit also included a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, where the ministers acknowledged the support of traditional institutions in the fight against insurgency.
At the Borno State Government House, the Deputy Governor expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of troops and ongoing federal support.
The ministers also paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Military Cemetery in Maiduguri.
At the theatre command, they inspected a newly built Command and Control Centre and commissioned accommodation for troops.
They later addressed personnel, urging them to remain committed to ongoing operations.
