‎The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has commenced the distribution of Presidential Emergency Food and Nutrition items in Katsina State as part of measures to tackle food insecurity among vulnerable citizens.
‎
‎The exercise, held Thursday at the People’s Square, New Government House Katsina, was performed by the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, on behalf of the Minister, Dr Bernard M. Doro.
‎
‎Speaking during the event, Ahmed reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing protection, care and durable solutions for displaced persons across the country.
‎
‎He said the intervention would include resettlement programmes, skills acquisition and agricultural support aimed at restoring livelihoods of affected populations.
‎
‎“The Federal Government will continue collaborating with state governments, humanitarian partners and communities to reduce suffering, strengthen social protection systems and promote sustainable recovery,” he said.
‎
‎Delivering a welcome address on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Director of Finance and Accounts Munkaila Mohammed said the intervention reflected government’s response to rising food insecurity caused by conflict, displacement, climate pressure and economic shocks.
‎
‎According to him, the programme is designed to provide immediate relief while also serving as a bridge to recovery and long-term resilience.
‎
‎The initiative, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is part of the administration’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable Nigerians are supported during periods of hardship.
‎
‎Representing the Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, the Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe commended the Federal Government for the intervention.
‎
‎Jobe disclosed that more than 6,000 beneficiaries, including internally displaced persons, migrants and vulnerable households, would receive food items, medical supplies and nutritional support, particularly for malnourished children.
‎
‎Traditional leaders, including the Emir of Katsina Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, also praised the initiative and urged transparency and fairness in the distribution process.
‎
‎Earlier, the delegation visited the Emir, inspected Kofar Kaure Primary Healthcare Hospital where drugs were distributed and held consultations with the state government.
‎
‎Officials of federal and state governments, development partners and members of the media attended the flag-off ceremony.
