The Federal Government has rolled out fresh humanitarian support for displaced Nigerians, with 300 households receiving cash grants and relief materials at the Kuchingoro IDP camp in Abuja.
The intervention, carried out by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard M. Doro, formed part of activities marking the birthday of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At the camp, government officials disclosed that no fewer than 1,500 displaced persons spread across 261 households are currently taking refuge at the facility, most of them from insurgency-affected communities in Borno and Adamawa States.
Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, said all households would benefit from food distribution, while vulnerable groups were specifically targeted for additional support.
According to him, 50 elderly women received beddings and blankets, while 50 students were provided with educational materials.
In addition, the minister approved a direct cash transfer of ₦10,000 to each of 300 households to cushion the impact of economic hardship.
Speaking during the visit, Doro said the intervention reflects government’s resolve to address both immediate and long-term needs of displaced persons.
“Our humanitarian efforts must go beyond temporary relief to creating pathways for stability and self-reliance,” he stated.
He urged the IDPs to remain hopeful, assuring them that government policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda are designed to rebuild lives and restore dignity.
Doro also called on residents to continue supporting government initiatives, noting that collective efforts are required to overcome current national challenges.
The visit witnessed emotional scenes as members of the camp community offered prayers for President Tinubu, wishing him wisdom and strength.
The event also featured the symbolic handover of relief materials to the female leader of the camp, reinforcing inclusiveness in the distribution process.
Newsdiaryonline reports that the intervention underscores the government’s commitment to tackling displacement and poverty across the country.
