Female fans used to faint for Tubaba at shows – Dayo D1

Nigerian music mogul, Dayo ‘D1’ Adeneye, has recalled a time that ladies were fainting when legendary musician, 2Face currently known as Tubaba performed on stage.

D1 went down memory lane when he appeared on an episode of the ‘Deep Dive’ podcast hosted by comedian and actor, Teju Babyface.

He said during one of Tubaba’s concert in Ivory Coast four female fans ladies fainted in the crowd as the ‘African Queen’ crooner was singing his hit songs on stage.

The record label executive, who was the director of Kennis Music which signed Tubaba, stated that at the peak of the label, there were over 50 artistes under its banner.

He was amazed that citizens of a non-English speaking country knew the artiste’s songs and were even singing it word-for-word.

Adeneye added that after the four girls fainted, they thought it was a joke until an ambulance came to the venue to carry them.

He said; “At the height of Kennis Music, we had over 50 artistes on the label. Lagbaja was signed to us. We had everybody, from gospel to hip-hop to fuji.

“We’ve been at a couple of shows where I’ve seen girls faint when 2Face was performing. I went on a tour in Ivory Coast, and brought a girl on stage and she hugged 2Face and passed out. During that concert, four girls fainted.

“These were people who didn’t speak English but they knew the lyrics of all his songs word-for-word. This was a francophone country and four girls fainted. We thought it was a joke but an ambulance had to carry them. They fainted just because they were in the presence of 2Face.”
