A 28-year old staff of FCMB MicroFinanceBank, Chidinma Nkemdirim, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing Bank’s money to the tune of N6.6m.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened between the month of January and July, 2025 at the bank’s branch located at 454/457 Ikorodu Road, Ketu area of Lagos State.
According to the Police, the lady was employed as the staff of the Bank and she started stealing the money in bits for several months with the intention that the bank management will not know.
However, the matter was exposed after the Bank conducted an internal audit and discovered that the money was missing. She was asked to explain what happened and she was unble to do so.
The matter was reported to the Police at Ketu Division. The suspect was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over the alleged offence.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge read:
“That you, Chidinma Nkemdirim (f) between the month of January July, 2025 at FCMB Mircofinance Bank situated at No. 454/457 Ikorodu Road, Ketu in the Ikeja Magisterial District, being a staff of FCMB Mircofinance Bank, did steal the sum of Six Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N6,600,000) property of FCMB Microfinance Bank and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 (7) of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood with tax payment while the addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
