Fayose Alleges Makinde Received N50bn Federal Emergency Funds

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has released documents he claims show that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde received N50 billion in emergency funds from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

Fayose said the funds were approved as support following the deadly explosion in Ibadan in January 2024. Governor Makinde had previously denied receiving such an amount and challenged Fayose to provide evidence.

In response, Fayose made the documents public, alleging that only N4.5 billion of the funds was paid to victims of the explosion. He claimed the balance was diverted for political purposes, including what he described as Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition.

In a statement signed by him, Fayose said he released the documents to allow Nigerians to judge whether the Oyo State Government had been transparent about the funds.

He also challenged Makinde to take legal action against him, insisting there are official records showing that other federal financial support to Oyo State was not disclosed to the public.

Fayose further claimed he possesses documents detailing Oyo State’s actual Internally Generated Revenue, which he said differs from figures publicly announced by the governor.

“Only N4.5 billion was released to victims of the Ibadan explosion,” Fayose said. “There are documentary evidences on the actual Internally Generated Revenue of Oyo State, as against Governor Makinde’s claim. I don’t say what I can’t prove.”
